So I finished my book today. It's 117k words :o
I say finished, but I really mean I finished the first draft. I'm still excited though. I'm gonna let it sit for a few weeks then get to editing it.
Wow, nice! I hope editing goes well. » randomjunk

While I start writing my third novel I can't help but remember the tedium of editing haha The key, I've found, is to make sure that you let it sit long enough that it isn't committed to memory. I've found that if I try editing too soon then I start 'reading' what I wanted to write the first time around and so if something wasn't actually written as it was in my head while writing it...it became easy to miss any mistakes. When I write, the whole novel is a film in my mind and my fingers have to keep up with the pace that the thoughts flow out. And occasionally there will be an error or typo (or perhaps you left an entire thought out) which would really throw readers for a loop. If I edit too early on then I read it as the writer. And I tend to 'read' what I knew it was supposed to be in my mind. But since this was posted two months ago.... You've probably already got this figured out for yourself haha » etheracide
